What do you think about Furries?

So, my physical host, Dorothy, is a Furry, and is looking forward to creating her own Fursuit based on my design! However she has asked me about what Otherkins think about Furries, and if Furries offend Otherkins. I honestly don't know what to tell her. I told her that since all Otherkins are unique and different, their opinions would be different. I personally welcome Furries with open arms, but I wanted to provide Dorothy with several opinions to better help her understand us better. :)

I personally love furries! I am one aswell. Though furries do have a bad reputation because people did alot of hating on the yiffy side of the furry community. It took me a while to finally allow my self to call my self a furry/ fur. because of the bad reputation it had. Though I hope in time the reputation will die down and get a good reputation instead of having a bad one.

I don't mind furrs. Though the only thing I am sick of lately, when i try for example to find Anthro raccoons I get.. anthro Porn. Not sure if thats from furrs or not but it gets sickening lol. I am not a fur myself but don't mind most.

I acknowledge furry and it's fandom as a phase some people go through, I don't consider furries related to otherkin or should really ever be mentioned together.

I do get that some otherkin/therians want to get into the whole fandom and the likes, personally I would never but at the same time I find some of the fursuits fashionably appealing to the eyes.

So while I acknowledge people who follow the phase, I don't link it to otherkin besides some wanting to dress like their kin and will not really see it as anything else but a phase, though that's just my perspective is all.

In my opinion the furry community has nothing to do with the otherkin/therian communities. They have been lumped together in the past which has given the otherkin/therians a bad name. But now the appropriate division has been formed and I personally don't have a problem with them. Fursona's are cute. =)

Furry and Otherkiness ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.
It's important that people know about that.
You can be furry and want to make a fursuit (which I don't, because I'm so freaking poor and because I would die of suffocation)
You can be furry without liking the yiff part of it, because, let's face it, they go mostly hand in hand.
I, for one, don't mind at all. I make NSFW art and I can enjoy if other artist makes some.
I'm sorry if I offend some of you, but at the same time, I don't care. :P

The only thing that would annoy me if I saw it, would be a furry saying s/he is Otherkin but is only a furry. That would show a lack of knowledge and understanding and it would piss me off.

Being a furry basically means that the person wants to be an animal, and theriantropy means that you are an animal (being really simplistic here). So I don't see why furry fandom causes such frictions among the Therian community.

My only issue is when it become ridiculous and/ or harmful to whatever person in question is dealing with it. That or getting it shoved in my face too much. Then it's rather uncomfortable.

Some people take it too far, ditching responsibilities for porn or roleplay. As long as it's part of a healthy lifestyle and monitored so it doesn't become destabilizing, doesn't seem to be anything inherently wrong with it as far as I'm concerned. x3

Eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww xD yeah, some of them even fuck with their costumes on. The important thing to remember here is to be careful that the furry, especially furry porn doesn't blur your reality  and make you think zoophily is ok cause it's not.


Furries and animals are different.  Furries are humans or humanoids and they have human traits and personalities and animals don't. 


Animals, they don't have the same view and conscious of sexual acts and damn, this is just disgusting in my opinion. I mean, someone thinking bout DOINGT it. Even there, it's alright to think it, we all have weird fantasies, me included. But thinking and doing it are two different things. 


You must know where the limit stands.


So yeah as she said, it's important to keep your head in the real world and realize furry must not lead to zoophily, pedophily or else. 


Otherwise, I'm really found of furries.

I'm ok with furries, but as long as they do not mock me as an otherkin.

For example, I have broken up with my ex, who lied to me about being a wolf therian, not only for cheating and falsifying as a therian, but she has told me that I am not a dragon kin because they do not exist. *Facepalms* I was told by a furry that I can't say I'm a dragon because I do not exist.

As a result, along with other offenses, I broke up with her and I am now dating a legit wolf/ dragon therian who actually does have a real sense of a wolf and a dragon. She feels heat sources like I do as a dragon kin. I would rather date a therian rather than a furry because furries can be human, and it's hard for me to understand if they are indeed a therian or otherkin or just a human.

what do i think of furries? oh i think the world of furries. why? because i am one! i'm a fursuiter known as Bodker in the furry fandom.

Since, to my knowledge, I don't know anyone who is a furry, and knowing only what little I've read about the phenomenon, It would seem to me that furries are simply otherkin wannabe's...they have the desire to feel the spirit of their inner animal, but not the true capability... and I hope that doesn't hurt anyone's feelings. Just my opinion, and we all know what that is worth, lol.

i wouldn't necessarily say that's the case. I have been involved in the furry fandom for many years. and I can honestly say it's a rather inclusive subculture. at cons, there are a great deal of people from all walks of life. that for me, is one of its best features. while it's true that otherkin and furry fandom are two different things, there is considerable overlap. so much that cons often times will have otherkin/therian panels or meetups.

there's really no single reason as to why people are furries, much like otherkin. the single biggest difference for me is that you can pick a fursona, but you can't really pick your kintype. instead it picks you. the furry fandom also does have a rather lascivious side to it, unlike otherkin.

furries are generally described as people who enjoy anthropomorphic animals. and while I think that's true, I also feel it's only the tip of the iceberg. it's a rather esoteric interest and I doubt most people would spend so much time and money into the fandom just because they "think it's neat". there has to be a much deeper psychological explanation for it.

to me furries are people who were asked if they were an animal, what would they be, and got really creative with their answer. much like I have done with my characters. as previously stated, i'm also a fursuiter, and I do intend on getting another one.

What I meant above is yes, there are some wannabe otherkins out there, often, they are the ones who barely or didn't awaken yet, but yeah, it's not everyone who's in the same boat. Some furries just love and with to be animals because it's fun and the furry community is cool and friendly .

I just...don't like the cartoonish costumes of fursuits.

if i was a furry, I'd rather look like my wolf and in a realistic way. I'd make my fursuit for it to be as realistic as possible to the truth. For me, it would be a way to be my wolf without risks and to feel more like myself.

but even me, I think it's not necessary.

If you are the animal inside, you don't need to fursuit.

But yeah, it would be fun.


It's just, otherkins are not necessarly furries and furries are not necessarly otherkings, you have to make the difference.

I love furries.

But i'm not sure i want to be part of their community, since for me being an otherkin is something way deeper on a total different level ( spiritual and physical ).

It's not an Halloween party. At some point, I think it's kind of humiliating. IDk why i just feel like that.

Even tho I would like to try, it's against my wolf's values/dignity, whatever she has in mind.

thanks. glad you like Bodker. and to answer your question, it's actually hybrid of a coatimundi and a pine marten. so he's a coatimarten. I have considered a natural pine marten fursuit though, but my next one is actually going to be a skunk. I tend to go with what would be fun to fursuit as, rather than what represents me.

and you could look into getting a realistic fursuit if you so wanted. there's lots of people that make them.
