MOUTAIN LION'S  GENERAL BEHAVIOR

Mountain Lion's general behavior 339911328_154975397504384_7325247936204419432_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=0debeb&_nc_ohc=aNi2O3lBmiEAX8zNKo6&_nc_ht=scontent.fymq3-1

Mountain lions, also known as cougars, pumas, panthers, or catamounts, are large cats native to the Americas. They are known for their solitary nature and their tendency to avoid humans. Mountain lions are territorial animals and have naturally low population densities, which means they require large areas of wilderness habitat to thrive.

Mountain lion behavior around people tends to be avoidance. These mammals do not want to be seen or noticed, but have probably observed you whenever you hike through their habitat. Even amongst each other, mountain lions tend to be wary. They live solitary lives and the only time they are not alone is when a mother mountain lion is rearing her cubs. Mountain lion cubs are both deaf and blind at birth, making them incredibly vulnerable to prey. As a result, mother mountain lions are very protective of their cubs.

Mountain lions are stealthy predators, hunting at night and often lying in wait for prey or silently stalking it before pouncing from behind and delivering a lethal bite to the spinal cord. Typically they prey on deer, but also feed on smaller animals, even insects, when necessary. Like all cats, mountain lions are strict carnivores and only rarely consume vegetation.

Mountain lions can breed year-round. Female mountain lions usually give birth every two years. Litters can range in size from one to six cubs. The young may stay with their mother for as long as 26 months, but usually separate after about 15 months. In the wild, a mountain lion can live up to 10 years.

Mountain lions play a crucial role in balancing ecosystems in the U.S. and across the Americas. They interact with hundreds of species and act as “ecological brokers” across the Americas. A study found that mountain lions interact with almost 500 species—which is believed to be more relationships than any other carnivore in the world.

In summary, mountain lions are solitary creatures that tend to avoid humans and live in large areas of wilderness habitat. They are stealthy predators that hunt at night and prey on deer and other smaller animals. Mountain lions play an important role in balancing ecosystems across the Americas.

This is great! Definently put together better than my research haha

But did you know that mountain lions live together in little communities? They share and even overlap their boundaries, and may know each other due to scents and sharing territory with each other. (Its sort of similar to living in a neighborhood with other people - you know that they are there, that they exist, and will do stuff with them occasionally, but you both mutually avoid each other.)

Mountain lions arent territorial, but the only time real fighting happens is when there is a conflict of resources (Such if there is low food, if there is too many males and too few females, etc.), or if a male wants another males territory. These creatures mutually avoid each other weirdly enough, but do tolerate each other, and will even eat together.

And its not always the case for large swatches of wilderness to live in for themselves - due to their adaptability they could have huge territories, or tiny ones shared with jaguars or even simply due to not enough space.

Did you know that some mountain lions also have a summer and winter territory? They will follow the herds (Within their territory of course) and stick with them all summer and winter long. Not all mountain lions do this, but some do.

This is still, very well done. Im just a nerd for mountain lions lol, I had to stop myself from writing a lot, and I mean a lot more. *chefs kiss*
