About me (how you've understood about you are, stuff you would like others to know about yourself, etc. Me learning I am a Wereraccoon is recent. I was confused for so long feeling different species, connections ect. My husband advised I look into the scavenger Omnivore like species. That is when raccoon hit me. I at one point shifted right in front of him. he tried to describe the Markings he seen but I could not pin point it so i tried feline. He recently seen a raccoon pic and pointed out the markings along with my grayish color. I learned my over all mentality was also Coon like. And well here i am. I now often feel alone as it seems we are unheard of.. but I am adjusting and hope to Shift again soon. Possibly in the Fall. When it is nice weather and I have much more energy.

Well, almost all the theriotypes/kintypes are the only one of their kind here, apart from the wolves, of course.
(I'm the only tanuki, RR's the only Maned wolf, Nekoman's the only Nekomimi, etc.)
In our small number, we're not alone. :P

Yeah,, never be a stranger. Everyone has his/her place here, you are no exception. We share a lot of our emotions and we often have weird or embarrassing questions to ask to each other. It's alright. Like I said, we are a family :) we can express ourselves  freely, as long as it stays respectful.

ok not sure where to ask this then but it is about tanuki lol. I read much of Japanese Lore mainly Kitsune but some Tanuki as well. It seems the Japs are fond of huge well.. testies? Why are your kind depicted in this manner? Is it simbolic and are all Tanuki male? and are us normal raccoons considered Tanuki in Japanese Lore (Badgers to) or JUST the Raccoon dog? (I guess this is more referred to the Kami Or Yoaki) :oops:

Because I don't want to mess anything up, I did a small research online before posting any of this.

Proportionally to their bodies, real life tanuki's genitals are normal.

The whole craze about the big balls started very long ago. But it's not about the testes, it's about the scrotum.



In his book “Hagane no Chishiki, (Knowledge about Steel)” (Diamond Shakan, 1971), Shigeo Okuwa traces the super-size scrotum story to metal workers in Kanazawa Prefecture. To make gold leaf, these craftsmen would wrap gold in a tanuki skin before carefully hammering the gold into thin sheets. It was said that gold is so malleable, and tanuki skin so strong, that even a small piece could be thinned to the size of eight tatami mats. And because the Japanese for “small ball of gold” (kin no tama) is very close to the slang term for testicles (kintama), the eight-mat brag got stuck on the tanuki’s bag. Soon, images of a tanuki began to be sold as prosperity charms, purported to stretch one’s money and bring good fortune.


So it's not the testicules that are big, is the scrotum, that can apparently strech and strech. And it's only male tanuki that have that stetchy ball-skin. Westerners have wrongly translated raccoon and badgers to 'tanuki' when they first came to Japan. They don't have any relation whatsoever. x) So no, the raccoons and the badgers don't have huge balls when they are drawn or pictured :P

In Japan, the scrotum and testes are symbols of good luck rather than overt sexual symbols. Basically, the tanuki's big balls are supposed to give you luck with money. Because tanuki scrotum expends your money. Somehow.

It is said that the tanuki yokai can use their scrotum for many things and control it however they want. They make boats, fishnets, mats, etc. with it. Since they can shift their bodies, they also shift their scrotum. :P It is usually seen in art but not really mentionned in the traditionnal stories though.

My kintype is male and a tanuki yokai. But I don't really know much about him yet. D:
