Coywolves : The coywolf is created when a wolf and a coyote mate, and produce offspring. They are fertile and can breed continuously with other types of wolves and dogs. At the moment there are only two recognized subspecies of wolf and coyote that are coywolves: The Red Wolf and the Eastern coyote.
The Red Wolf: Once declared extinct in the wild, red wolf numbers have gradually been increasing and they are now breeding in the wild. The red wolf stands about 66?79 cm (26?31 in) at the shoulder. The total length is 111?165 cm (44?65 in) including a tail of 30?43 cm (12?17 in). The body weight can range from 16 to 41 kg (35 to 90 lb) but averages at about 24.5 kg (54 lb).[7] Male red wolves are approximately 10% larger than females. Their coat is long and coarse, with mostly brown and buff coloring on the upper part of the body, with some black along the back. They have a long muzzle with a wide, black, nose pad, reddish ears, and long legs, and a tail with bushy black tips. They can occasionally be black or melanistic, and look like a regular wolf, save for the long legs and large, coyote like ears. They also tend to have a more slender like look than that of a grey wolf. Red wolves have one estrous cycle per year, and become sexually mature in its second year of life. They have no natural predators, and their diet is mostly comprised of white-tailed deer, nutria, raccoons, and rabbits.
The Eastern Coyote: Typically weighing 30-50 pounds and 48-68 inches, nearly twice the size of a regular coyote, Eastern coyotes are hybrids of western coyotes and Canadian Gray Wolves. They normally have long legs, thick fur, and a pointy snout (sometimes it looks very much like a dog?s snout.) They also have a droopy bushy black tipped tail and can range in color from a silvery gray to a grizzled, brownish red. They are often mistaken for a dog coyote hybrid, but more often than not they?re coyote-wolf hybrids. Eastern coyotes, unlike wolves, are not afraid of humans, so they tend to frequent towns and cities. However, unlike regular coyotes, they have the pack behavior and aggressiveness of regular wolves, as well as the intelligence of the coyote. This means they?re very tricky and bold, often stealing from people or other pets and animals. Is P-shifting possible for coyote-wolf hybrids? Yes, although there will be minor differences (you may look odd or like a weird mix of the two, and your weight will be different, so you may be bigger than a regular coyote, but smaller than a wolf.)
