THE WOLF'S COMPLETE DIET

CARNIVOROUS DIET  

Grey wolves are  considered carnivorous, since most of their diet consists of meat, mainly hoofed animals, around 80 to 90 % of their diet. They eat everything that either have the bad luck to cross their territory, including  big and small mammals, even canids, which they kill on sight. Reptiles, amphibious, even insects. For bigger creatures , wolves can't fight them alone and need pack members to help. This is why it is so hard to have a loner life as a wolf because they get less chances of survival. Larger number of wolves makes it easier for wolves to fight and kill bigger creatures like mooses, bears, elks, deers etc. Also, don't worry, humans are not on the menu but dare they bring their unleashed dog into their territory, it might end in a sad way for their dog.Wolves  will surprinsingly also eat road kills and even some freshly rotten flesh. You may think wolves only kill prey animals but they can also kill predators and their cubs. Known ones are bear cubs, dogs and mountain lion cubs. Sea wolves prefer sea food  and fishes, which will consist of their main diet.  

SEASONAL DIET

Winter : BEST SEASON, DEPENDING ON THE SNOW CONDITIONS. Wolves have the advantage of being light on snow because of the fur between their fingers, which makes them sink less than their preys into the snow.

- When the snow is low : Hares are the main small mammals they eat in winter but snowstorms and snowfalls make the hares almost invisible to see. When it,s hotter, some rodents that go outside between two hibernation sessions to feed themselves again get caught by wolves.   Wolve mainly eat small rodents and hares in winter but white animals are hard to spot in the snowstorms and snow falls.

- When the snow is deep  : Deers, elks, mooses, bisons and caribous because they are heavier animals than wolves, and giving the wolf's fur between their fingers, it makes the hoofed animals more vulnerable to wolf attacks, it slows them down. 

Summer : Wolf pups have grown and can join the hunting season so ongulated animals like deers are hunted down during summer.

Autumn :  Fishing season. Less big mammals avalaible in autumn because they hunted a lot in summer so....wolves need to accumulate a lot of fat for winter since they don't hibernate. So, they favor small preys and fishes. Salmons are the most nutritious fishes. 

Spring :  Beavers season. But also deers and other hoofed animals. The favorite preys for wolves in spring are small animals of all kind, anything with proteins they can catch, even reptiles and insects, sometimes even fishes. They eat anything avalaible depending on where they live. 

VEGAN FOOD AS A BACKUP PLAN ?!!

To avoid starvation when meat lacks or even to eat as a supplement of nutrients to their carnivorous diet, wovles sometimes even turn to plants for food . Sometimes, they even eat grass to treat their digestive system from potential irritation or parasites. here's a quick list of what they can feed on :

Strange Facts : 

- Mother wolves puke food to their young to feed them, like WTF !! xD

- Wolves can eat over 20 pounds of meat one shot :0 !!!

- Wolves can last a week with a good meal or almost nothing in their bellies...!!

- Wolves and ravens sometimes live in symbiosis because ravens and crows can alert wolves of their preys location and the wolves kill the preys for them ,feasting on it with them.
